ANGEL OF THE NORTH

The Angel of the North is a contemporary structure designed by Antony Gormley. It stands 20 metres high and was installed in February 1998.

There are approximately 26 free car parking spaces plus 4 disabled spaces. There are no toilets but sometimes there is a coffee, food or ice cream van.

Look out for the commemorative sign directly behind the angel on the bank: most people miss this. The brown tourist guide sign off the A1 northbound slip road that directs drivers off to the left is misleading as it's actually the third right off the roundabout and then 200 yards up to reach the free car park on the left, as shown on the map below.
